How to save 80.000 euro on your ATPL in 5 years

Borrowing a lot of money for your training is one thing. (and easy) But paying it all back is a different matterwhat many students don't know is that there are many additional charges on top of the initial training outlay:
Type rating Unfortunately many airlines stopped paying for the aircraft typerating and even for linetraining. These cost 20.000 - 40.000 depending on type of aircraft.
Cost of travel, housing and living For the duration of your studies you need to live somewhere, travel and eat.
Interest The interest on say 100.000 euro loan at 6% interest is a whopping 6.000 euro per annum which is comparable to a mortgage for an appartment, increasing total debt rapidly even during your studies. Don't think you can just walk- up to an airline with 200 flying hours and say: "Hey, do you want to hire me?" No sir! You need to build hours, take other jobs for a while. So these early years are still not payback time. We think you get the picture... You will need to keep your sum owed as low as you can. We also advise you to keep working during your studies.
Insurances Think of loss of licence insurance, life insurance, health insurance and banks require build up of capital ceded to them in order to reduce their borrowing risk. So an investment policy in order to build a lump sum as security for your loan with them could well be mandatory. All together, these costs can attain 12.000
Now, what does this all mean for you, the student?

Conclusion Your total sum paid over the payback period will be roughly double the initial training cost quoted to you. But this is not all, there are far more financial issues to consider like different fiscal arrangements enabling you to have the taxman invest in your training. Even setting up a flight training Ltd. could benefit you.
